Perkins has further deepened its market layout across South Asia by launching the customized 4006 Electronic (4006E)4006-23TAG3A generator set engine for the Indian market. It is designed to cope with complex local operating conditions, including extreme heat, heavy dust, unstable grid voltage and continuous high-load operation, delivering reliable prime and standby power for critical sectors such as infrastructure, manufacturing, mining and healthcare, and addressing persistent power supply challenges caused by unreliable local power grids and extreme environments across many parts of India.
Large areas of India suffer from persistent extreme heat, dusty surroundings, volatile grid power supply and voltage fluctuations. Remote mining zones and industrial parks also have heavy continuous power demands. Conventional generator sets often experience power degradation, slow load response, excessive fuel consumption, frequent failures and non-compliant emissions, making them unable to sustain consistent power supply for continuous factory production, hospital life-support systems and data communication facilities. Many older models suffer obvious power derating under high temperatures, while also facing stricter CPCB II emissions regulations in India. Based on extensive local customer research and lengthy field validation tests, Perkins developed the 4006E model with advanced electronic control upgrades and localised adaptations on the proven 4000 series platform, with manufacturing carried out at the Perkins facility in Aurangabad, India.
This 6-cylinder, 23-litre electronically controlled diesel engine offers a prime power rating of up to 750 kVA. Its core upgrade is the new full electronic control system and electronic unit injectors, which enable precise fuel injection control. The design reduces overall fuel consumption by 7% and significantly cuts emissions, achieving full compliance with India’s CPCB II emission standards while lowering long-term operational costs. It delivers exceptional load acceptance capability, greatly enhancing stability during sudden load changes, which is ideal for regions with frequent grid fluctuations and heavy fluctuating loads such as mines and large manufacturing production lines.
In terms of environmental adaptability, the 4006E can operate at full power at ambient temperatures up to 50°C and altitudes up to 300 metres without significant power derating, perfectly adapting to India’s hot and dusty climate. Optimised structural design enables 750 kVA power output within a much smaller footprint than equivalent competitor models; it is far more compact than competing 12-cylinder, 38-litre alternatives, simplifying integration into containerised silent generator sets, reducing plant room space requirements and overall installation costs. Maintenance arrangements and parts systems have also been refined to streamline servicing, extend service intervals, ease maintenance in remote locations and reduce the total cost of ownership.
To accelerate market adoption, Perkins has collaborated with leading Indian genset OEM partners including Sterling Generators, Captiva Energy Solutions and Supernova Engineers Limited, hosting technical seminars and product launch events in Mumbai, Kolkata and Ahmedabad. These sessions cater to local EPC contractors, energy service providers, infrastructure owners and power engineers, covering electronic control system operation, remote monitoring, commissioning and genuine maintenance support, to speed up local assembly and mass delivery of complete generator sets.

Moving forward, Perkins will enhance local genuine parts supply and smart remote aftersales services, providing rapid on-site repairs, scheduled inspections and genuine component support via regional service networks to ensure long-term reliable operation.
