Perkins has officially launched the new 2606 diesel engine designed specifically for stationary power generation applications, belonging to the new 13-litre 2600 Series2506C-E15TAG1 platform. It targets stationary prime and backup power markets in regions with less stringent emissions regulations, with commercial production scheduled for the second half of 2025, expanding Perkins’ medium-power generator engine portfolio.
This inline six-cylinder 12.9-litre model has undergone more than 30,000 hours of rigorous design validation. The entire 2600 Series platform holds over 120 granted and pending patents. It features an advanced high-pressure common rail electronic fuel injection system, balancing superior power density, fast transient load response and long-term fuel efficiency. Compared with legacy 2206 and 2506 models, the 2606 has a more compact footprint and reduced weight, simplifying installation and integration for stationary generator packages, suitable for commercial buildings, remote worksites, telecom base stations, industrial parks and county hospitals.
The engine delivers 321–523 kW prime power and 365–572 kW standby power, supporting flexible switching between 50 Hz and 60 Hz frequencies and multiple voltage configurations, enabling a single generator set to adapt to different regional grid standards and lowering OEM development costs. It meets ISO G3 transient performance standards and NFPA 110 fire standby power requirements, offering excellent load acceptance and fast start-up capability to maintain critical systems such as fire protection equipment and medical facilities during grid outages. It operates reliably at ambient temperatures up to 60°C, as low as -40°C (with aids), and altitudes up to 3,500 metres, demonstrating exceptional resilience in extreme climates and terrain.
Major design improvements include a 45% reduction in leak joints to minimise fluid leakage risks, plus extended oil and fuel filter service intervals of up to 1,000 hours. This reduces scheduled downtime, maintenance labour and consumable costs, while lowering fluid consumption to cut total cost of ownership. The engine is fully compatible with 100% HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil), B100 biodiesel and other renewable liquid fuels to support decarbonisation goals. Its core architecture also allows future development of spark-ignited natural gas and hydrogen variants for long-term energy transition.
