As Perkins’ most powerful and technically sophisticated fully electronic engine platform purpose‑built for power generation, the all‑new 5000 Series has been rapidly deployed in tier‑1 critical‑load applications worldwide since its official launch. These include data centres, airports, major hospitals, mining sites and large commercial complexes. The portfolio covers inline‑6, inline‑8, V12 and V16 configurations, with a power range from 750 kVA up to 2500 kVA standby rating and a maximum prime power of 2250 kVA. Targeting high‑reliability power projects where zero tolerance for outages is required, it has become one of the most anticipated new products in the high‑power generator set segment in recent years.
The entire 5000 Series is engineered specifically for generator duty, rather than being adapted from industrial engines. Equipped with a full‑authority electronic common‑rail fuel system, its core capability achieves ISO 8528‑5 G3 load acceptance. It can pick up sudden load instantly upon mains failure with minimal voltage and frequency dip, making it ideal for high‑end data centres working in tandem with UPS systems. Service intervals have also been extended: routine maintenance cycles are around 30 % longer compared with previous large‑bore models. This substantially cuts long‑term labour, spare‑part costs and downtime losses, optimising total cost of ownership (TCO) — a key reason many large end‑users and EPC contractors select this solution. The engines support both 50 Hz and 60 Hz configurations to match grid standards across most countries globally, with flexible emission options compliant with regional regulations, covering export markets including the Middle East, Africa, Southeast Asia, South Asia and Europe.
Since launch, many leading global OEMs have released complete generator sets based on the 5000 Series. Turkish genset manufacturer Teksan launched the TJ2500PE in October 2025, powered by the Perkins 5016 V16 engine, one of the first commercially available 2500 kVA high‑power units for large campuses and data centre backup power. The first Asia‑assembled genset using the 5000 platform was completed by RCG Power, marking its formal entry into Asia’s high‑power genset supply chain for large infrastructure projects across Southeast and South Asia. Dubai International Airport selected the 5008A‑E30TAG, rated at 1250 kVA prime, for critical redundant backup power in its terminal buildings. Large commercial developments in London, UK, and the Royal Victoria Hospital in Northern Ireland have also finished commissioning of 5008‑based gensets for life‑safety emergency loads. In South Africa’s power rental sector, multiple 5008 units have undergone site trials at mining operations, logging more than 600 hours of trouble‑free runtime and proving stable performance under high‑temperature, dusty and continuous‑operation conditions.
Perkins Power Generation leadership stated that global demand for high‑power critical power keeps rising. On one hand, cloud computing and supercomputing are driving new data centre construction. On the other hand, mines and heavy industries in regions with fragile grid infrastructure increasingly prefer large‑capacity prime‑rated generation. The high‑power segment was long dominated by a small number of competitors. The arrival of the 5000 Series fills Perkins’ product gap above 2000 kVA, completing its full power portfolio spanning the smaller 1100 Series, mid‑range 2200/2600 Series and the new high‑power 5000 Series.4016-61TRG2
Beyond hardware, Perkins provides unified global remote monitoring protocols, diagnostic tools and worldwide spare‑parts support. The electronic engine control unit can integrate with genset controllers for remote start/stop, load monitoring, fault alarms and service reminders, enabling centralised fleet management for EPCs and asset owners. For genset exporters, standardised technical documentation, FAT acceptance procedures, original performance curves and emission certificates reduce tendering workload and compliance document preparation.
Industry analysts forecast that the 5000 Series will gain further traction over the next two to three years in key export markets including African mining, large factories in Bangladesh, Southeast Asian data centres and Middle East real‑estate projects. It competes directly with high‑power offerings from MTU and Cummins and gives genset assemblers another strong high‑power engine option.
