Perkins Expands Production of 2000 Series Engines at Hosur Plant in India to Speed Up South Asia Supply Chain

Recently, Perkins announced that its manufacturing base in Hosur, India, has officially launched mass production of the 2000 Series 2206A-E13TAG6diesel engines for power generation. The production focuses on two models, the 2506D and 2806D, with rated outputs reaching 500 kVA and 625 kVA respectively, supplying generator set OEM customers across South Asia.

Located roughly 40 kilometres from Bengaluru, the Hosur factory has manufactured the 1100 Series since 2015. With the newly added production line for the 2000 Series, engines will be built to the same manufacturing standards as Perkins’ UK headquarters. These two electronically controlled inline‑6 engines are designed for both prime and standby power applications and are compatible with 50 Hz grids. They are widely used in factories, shopping malls, telecom base stations and small‑scale mines, and have long been popular configurations for genset buyers in Bangladesh, Pakistan and neighbouring countries.

Localised production will greatly shorten lead times for South Asian customers, reduce risks of ocean freight delays, and cut import tariffs and cross‑border logistics costs. For Chinese exporters of complete generator sets, locally built Perkins 2000 Series engines represent a market shift. South Asian buyers now have a local supply option with faster delivery and competitive pricing, which meanwhile creates new competitive pressure on China‑built packaged genset exports.

Perkins South Asia’s management stated that this capacity expansion responds to fast‑growing demand for backup power across the region. The brand will also develop regional spare‑parts warehouses and on‑site service networks. Genuine spare parts, maintenance training and technical support will be rolled out simultaneously to guarantee long‑term reliable operation. As the new line ramps up output, the 2506D and 2806D supply volumes will keep rising. They are set to become core power choices in the South Asian genset market and further strengthen Perkins’ global market share in the medium‑power engine segment.
